Category: Accessible Games
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone who owns an iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, etc) knows of any worthwhile freewhere audio games for said devices? I'm mainly looking for some action/first-person shooters. I know of only a couple. Those are: papa sanger and the nightjar. the nightjar isn't available in the US as far as I know, and papa sanger doesn't really fit my bill. Any feedback would be welcome!
Thanks,
dDV
Have you looked at www.Applevis.com? They have a nice database of app reviews submitted by VoiceOver users. It's a great place to find out about accessible apps. You can browse by category or just search the site. The games category has quite a few apps in it. Maybe you'll find something that floats your boat in there.
no, thanks for the site. I'll take a look.
sounds pretty neat.
the night jar is a really great game for iPhone, I found that on Applevis i think. its a could site
I love de stino games. It had run for president, casino and all sorts of games. Also, if you want to pay a dollar, lemonade stand is pretty cool too.
There's also sole trapper. and some others that are really call. like a finger basketball. game.
Destino games is really awesome. Theres also a game i play called crime inc, that's a good game, and a text game called the things that go bump in the night
why isn't Night Jar available in the US?
want a game that will make you want to tear your hair out? get the demensions app. they say it's an audio game, but it's tricky. you have to go around collecting artifacts, but you don't know how to get them, at least i haven't figured it out, so i figured i'll just buy them all.
Hey guess what! I love hanging with friends! If you have a facebook, you can link your account with the game and invite friends to play. Here's how it works. Say I sent you the word star. You would see ? ? a ? You would only see vowels. If you fail to guess the word, you fall and land in lava. Then once you guess your friend's word, you send them one and so on and so forth. I love it! I'm totally blind and it's been the first time I can play a facebook game lol. If anyone wants to play, PM me and we can try it.

And many many more. These are not all free, but they are accessible. THis is also by no means comprehensible. It's just what came to mind. Good luck.
Applevis is amazing! Not only can you search by category, but you can also narrow it down based on price and accessibility rating. I've always preferred to access the app store directly from my phone, so I don't usually link to them directly from Applevis, but that doesn't really matter for the purpose of this topic. Hanging with Friends is great fun. However, I've heard the free version isn't as accessible as the paid version. it's only $2.99 last I checked, though. I know you asked specifically for freeware, and this does fall into that category, but if you can drop the $3, I think your experience with it will probably be better. If anyone uses the free version and finds it just as accessible, please do correct me.
yeah it's true, the free version is not accessible so I paid for mine. Sorry i put this in the wrong catigory.
I've come across a few games since I last posted. If you like Crime INC, than you'll probably also like fighter City. it's also free, but there are extras you can buy with an in-app purchass. You don't need them, but they can be nice. Anyway, if anyone is already playing, or wants to check it out, I'm in need of more apprentices at my dojo. My character's name is Ninja Girl. yeah, I know. I was bored when I created my character. haha. As far as accessibility goes, there are a few minor issues with VO not refreshing with the screen for some reason. usually it's as simple as tapping somewhere else on the screen, but occasionally you may need to restart VO. besides that, I quite like it.
Couldn't break into Fighter City for some reason.
Will have to check out Crime Inc.
There is a sort of sim (short for simulation) game called PeachTree. They advertise it works with VoiceOver and it does. You care for your peach tree, harvest peaches, and sell them, and improve your house / deck etc.
My daughter and all them talk sims all the time. At first I wondered what they meant, SIM cards? But they play cafes and things on Android I just didn't know that we could.
PeachTree is pretty lightweight compared to what my daughter plays. With hers the food rots and customers leave if she doesn't do things in time. I'd be interested if there are other sims that we can actually play using the VoiceOver.
they also have one called orange tree.
Orange tree, that is it. Sorry, PeachTree is an old accounting package from the 90s. Blah, brain cells.
lemonade stand mentioned above is a sim. YOu simulate your own lemonade stand and sell it and try to make a profit. Candywars is also kind of a sim. I am really into those as well. Alter ego is also a life simulation if you want to try that.
I recommend
world war: MMO with alliances, different countries, missions, battles, quite fun imo
if anyone already plays, feel free to add alliance code JJB98E
zany touch: bop it style gameanyways, off to level up and get a few battle tanks!

As well as Unword, Trivia burst, Trivy, Anagramen, so you think you know words, big grain quiz, and Blindside.
Typo, I meant Big Brain Quiz. These games aren't strictly audio games, but they contain Audio and have text and are very Vo-friendly.
I've found another great multi-player game that works with Vo, called Please stay calm.
The only inaccessible aspect of the game is scavenging, but you can play without it, though it does grant bonuses.
